That question is very hard to understand. Citizens of the United States are called Americans because America is also another name for the United States, just like Great Britain, and the UK.
Porque no tenemos otra opcion. No suena normal si nos llamamos United Statesians y Americanos de los estados unidos es demasiado largo. Gente de Mexico pueden llamarse mexicanos y de canada, canadians. Cuando decimos, americanos, no estamos tratando a ignorar los otros paises en las americas. Es solo que no tenemos una buena alternativa.

I guess we can all be North Americans but ya know we do have borders to distinguish our nationality..When people live in America or born here to me they are like American-Mexican…..American-African..American- Asian….etc…roots are a history I say live for the moment and stand proud…Represent people! =)
